FAME – Fonds d’Aide à la Mobilité Étudiante

Established by the decree of 19 May 2004the “Fonds d’Aide à la Mobilité Étudiante” is designed for students of higher education institutions in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Rules for granting student scholarships from the academic year 2015-2016:
- There is no distinction between mobility "courses" and mobility "traineeships".
The mobility grant is made of a fixed "travel allowance" amount and a fixed "living expenses" amount.

  • Travel allowance: the grant for travel costs covers the outward and return journeys to the place of stay. It is based on the actual distance travelled in terms of ‘kilometre brackets’ (see table below). Please note that only the outward journey is taken into account in determining the distance, and thus the grant. The tool for calculating the distance developed by the Commission in the framework of the Erasmus programme + must always be used:

Distance Fixed grant
 Between 100 and 499 km € 90.00
 Between 500 and 1999km € 137.50
 Between 2000 and 2999 km € 180.00
 Between 3000 and 3999 km € 265.00
 Between 4000 and 7999 km € 410.00
Above 8000km  € 550.00

  • Living expenses: a distinction between student recipients of a scholarship from the FWB and non-recipients is made. The flat monthly amount (= fixed amount) is 100 € for non- recipients and 200 € for recipients of a scholarship from the FWB.

Please note that a FAME grant can no longer be granted in addition to the mobility scholarship Erasmus Belgica and / or AESI -LG.

A student, who is not a recipient of a scholarship from the FWB and who is on a mobility “course” in Quebec, Canada, for 3 months, will receive a total amount of € 710 composed as follows:
A travel allowance of € 410.00 (= rate calculated based on the distance between Brussels and  Quebec)
A € 300 living allowance (= 3 x package of € 100 / month for non-recipient students).
