Registration of EU Students

If you come from an EU country other than Belgium and wish to register for an undergraduate course (Bachelor) at UMONS:

As a citizen of the EU, you do not need to make a request to register in the first year of a Bachelor degree programme. You can go directly to the Registration Office between 25th June and 31st October 2016.

You will need to bring the following documents:


Furthermore, you must possess a qualification recognised by the French Community of Belgium providing access to a Bachelor’s degree course, such as:


N.B.: If you wish to study  Speech Language Therapy OR Medicine, you must be aware that a quota of non-resident students is fixed at the beginning of each year and a specific procedure must be followed. 

Since the academic year 2013-2014, an entrance examination has been organised for prospective medical students. This compulsory, non-binding test (only the students will be informed of the results) is held twice a year, in July and September. It is a multiple-choice test and is held simultaneously in five universities of the French Community of Belgium.

To be able to register for the first year of medical school, students must provide official documentation attesting to their attendance and successful completion of this admissions test.

Passing the entrance examination does  not automatically grant access to this course; prospective students must still prove that they also meet the statutory conditions for admission into medical school, according to the terms and conditions and within the time frame as outlined both in the decree and in the UMONS Study Regulations.

If you come from an EU country other than Belgium, are currently registered on a Bachelor's or Master's degree, and wish to pursue your studies at the University of Mons:

1) Degrees obtained in Belgium:

University Degrees:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a given academic field that allows you to enrol directly onto a Master's degree course in the same field of study. In this case, please go directly to the Registration Office to register. The list of documents to submit at registration can be consulted here 
  • As a graduate of a Bachelor's degree in another field of study or as a graduate of a Master's degree, you will be able to transfer to another field of study. If this applies to you, please complete the online admissions form (in French). 


The deadline for applications is 31/08/2016.

  • 31st August 2016 for those who have graduated from school no later than July 2016 
  • 30th September 2016 for those who have graduated from school in September 2016


Degrees from "Hautes Ecoles" (institutions of higher education):

UMONS offers 3 gateways to our Master programmes:

  • Gateway Category 1:

Graduates of non-university higher education can register for a Master's programmes subject to passing a preparatory year. This preparatory year of study comprises a maximum of 60 credits.

  • Gateway Category 2:

Students can register for a Master's programme (possibly with an additional 15-credit programme) or subject to passing a preparatory year (if the additional programme exceeds 15 credits).

A faculty board evaluates applications and decides if the student has to undertake a preparatory year or if they can directly register for a Master's programme.

  • Gateway Category 3:

This gateway concerns mainly graduate students of Master's degrees of non-university higher education. Students can register for a Master's course (possibly with an additional programme of up to 15 credits).

Students concerned can go directly to the Registration Office with the following documents:

  • The completed "passerelles" (gateways) form. This form will be available as soon as possible. 
  • A valid identity card or passport;
  • A Health Clearance Certificate attesting that the student is fit to study (in French);
  • You Higher Education degree certificate(s)
  • Your Transcripts of Results for ALL subjects (even failed subjects) 
  • Supporting documents of your activities or studies over the last 5 years preceding your registration if they are not covered in your most recent degree
  • Official documentation confirming that all debts (if any) have been settled with your higher education institution in the French Community of Belgium for the academic years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.

2) Degrees obtained abroad:

If your degree was obtained abroad, please complete the Online Application Form (in French) and send it back with the documents required by the Registration Office.

The deadline for applications is:

  • 31st August 2016 for those who have graduated from school no later than July 2016 
  • 30th September 2016 for those who have graduated from school in September 2016


Please be aware that the system of Higher Education in force in your country may mean that your years of study are only partially recognised and that you may be offered a different programme from the one you originally requested.

Registration Formalities following your Application Acceptance

Once you have received a letter of acceptance, please go to the Registration Office in person to complete your registration.
