International Policy

A university opening itself up to the world is fundamental for the harmonious and dynamic development of its research and teaching. In this respect, the international relations policy at the University of Mons focuses on achieving the following objectives:

  • To maintain and develop high value-added partnerships with institutions established across five continents in order to implement a context appropriate for successful collaborations.
  • To promote student mobility of our students at one of our partner universities, and vice versa. Completing a semester or a year of study, an immersion course, or an end-of-studies placement abroad are all rewarding experiences offered to our students as well as to students of our partner universities. Such experiences contribute to their education and help them forge their own outlook on the world. In addition, the specific nature of UMONS is to be a university on a human scale, with personalised teaching, which all our incoming mobility students receive.
  • To encourage mobility of teachers and researchers, which is central to sharing expertise and developing joint programmes and multidisciplinary research.
  • To establish double degree programmes and joint supervision agreements of doctoral theses through international networks such as TIME (Top Industrial Managers for Europe), as well as through bilateral agreements, as is the case today with, for example, Brazil, Canada and Chile.
  • To encourage mobility of our administrative staff in order to exchange good practices with institutions across five continents, and to promote our institution.

These components of international policy are based on performances that have subsequently enabled UMONS to be awarded “very good” scores in the second ranking of U-Multirank, a tool designed to compare universities around the world initiated by the European Commission. UMONS ranks among the 12% of the 1200 higher education institutions evaluated which have a performance rating of “very good”, with more than 10 “A” scores.

The International Relations Office and the Vice-Rector welcome you to UMONS and wish you a stay full of discovery, exchange and success!
