Théophile Guibal is an inventor and engineer of French mines, born 31st July 1814 in Toulouse and died 16th September 1888 in Morlanwelz, Belgium.
He graduated from the École Centrale de Paris in 1836.
Théophile Guibal, Jean-Baptiste Thorn and Alphonse Devillez (graduate of the Ecole Centrale de Paris in 1835) are the founders of the current UMONS Faculty of Engineering (the former École des Mines).
He is also known for being the inventor of the "Guibal fan", without which the quarrying of coal mines in would have been impossible.
