Head of Unit: Professor Bernard Harmegnies
The Language Sciences and Metrology Unit, led by Professor Bernard Harmegnies, develops educational and scientific activities and links together the themes of spoken communication and psychometrics.
Most of the Unit's research activities are developed from the know-how and equipment of the Laboratory of Phonetics, the oldest component of the Unit, whose creation coincided with that of the University of Mons.

The Language Sciences and Metrology Unit was involved in the creation of the Research Institute for Language Science and Technology. It is also a founding member of the Research Institute for Health Sciences and Technology and regularly collaborates with the Research Institute for Complex Systems (Complexys) on various research projects.
