Photonics@be: towards smart photonics in 2020 - Interuniversity Attraction Pole project (PAI)

This project involves teams from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Ghent University (UGent) and UMONS, and aims to develop photonics over the next decade. To some extent, emphasis will be placed on the development of new optical materials (e.g. serviceoriented infrastructure (SOI) networks, silicon nitride (Si3N4) and polymers), photonic sources with additional functions (e.g. spectral range, quantum dots and random lasers) and optical components with innovative features (e.g. quantum dot based modulators and laser dynamics). These activities are designed to achieve a maximum level of integration of photonic components in chips.
